Rally powers to success in 2008 & MARCUS MAKES SIX


Event Director and Clerk of the Course, Rick Smith reported to the executive committee of Rallye Sunseeker that with over 90 rally teams entered in the event and with increased spectator numbers, 2008 had proved yet another success for the organising team, the sponsors and the marketing partners.


Rick stated ’The continued support from our sponsor Sunseeker International complimented by the support from the our special stage sponsors Grid Law, Silverstone Rally School, Shannon Group, Tank Devils and Turbo Dynamics together with Elliotthire at Canford Arena allows us to present an event of the highest standard. Which, to quote an official of the sports
Marcus Dodd won Rallye Sunseeker for the sixth time in his career — he and co-driver Andrew Bargery overcoming clutch problems with their Hyundai WRC early in the event to win by a margin of 43 seconds.
Runners up were Andrew Burton and Shelley Rogerson in the hybrid Peugeot Cosworth, while Irish crew Stephen Moore and Tony McHugh in their Ford Focus WRC took the third place.

RALLYE FACTS
 The team processed over 7100 emails to organise this years rally.
 1066 volunteers marshals, rescue crews, radio opera-tors and specialist officials attended the event.
 Senior event officials spent an average of 720 hours EACH, organising their section of the event.
 The safety team included: 1 team of SCUBA divers, 23 ambulances, recovery units and rescue units, 10 doctors and paramedics, 55 radio crews, 65 licensed rescue and recovery personnel.
 The event brought an estimated additional revenue of £650,000 to the area from teams, media personnel and spectators.
 The event website was viewed in 41 countries.
 As well as providing spectators with results information from the main computerised system, the commentators were also using their own system to give ‘split times’ of the cars as they passed the commentary position.
 Estimated 10,000 people watched in Bournemouth on Friday night!
