Friday – 7.45pm. Bulletin 1
The start of the two stages through Bournemouth's Lower Gardens, the traditional opener for Rallye Sunseeker, was delayed by a quarter of an hour this evening after two people required the assistance of the event's medical team prior to a trip to hospital in a county ambulance.
The first problem occurred when a member of the spectating public collapsed before the stage had gone ‘live'. The rally emergency crew was alerted immediately and was able to stabilise the patient before taking him to the pre-arranged rendezvous point for the onward transfer.
No sooner had this been completed than reports of someone falling off a wall and suffering a suspected broken leg were received by the medics who then drove back through the stage to recover the casualty and repeat the process.
The presence of the rally and its associated specialist teams meant that both incidents were dealt with very quickly and with an absolute minimum of disruption. The organisers were pleased to have been able to play their part in the swift and efficient rescues and wish the two patients speedy recoveries.
