Two stages to go before the traditional champagne-spraying in Bournemouth Square to mark the finish of Rallye Sunseeker, and Marcus Dodd is still leading the event in his Hyundai Accent WRC. The margin over Andy Burton (Peugeot Cosworth) has increased by a few seconds over the last couple of stages, but can in no way be described as ‘comfortable'!
Stephen Moore (Ford Focus WRC) maintains his 3 rd place, while Will Nicholls and Jon Ingram (both Subaru Impreza WRCs) are 4 th & 5 th respectively, but only three seconds apart.
The Top Six is rounded off by David Bogie who still leads the Group N category in his Mitsubishi Lancer EVO9. However, the chasing pack have swopped about a bit with Daniel Barry, Seb Ling & Nik Elsmore now line astern behind Bogie.
The Top 10 was rounded off by Stephen Petch who is beginning a full season of MSA Gravel Championship events in his Hyundai Accent WRC. However, head gasket trouble put him out shortly afterwards, allowing Neil McCance (Mitsubishi Lancer EVO9) to move up a place.
Joining Petch on the list of retirements is Julian Reynolds whose Impreza had developed a bad misfire, and Sean Devine's Ford Focus went out with gearbox failure. Alan Cookson (Subaru Impreza WRC) and Simon Harraway (Mitsubishi Lancer EVO9), both of whom were holding top ten places at one point, have both retired after putting their cars off the road.
