Poole Pottery pots Sunseeker Awards

With Rallye Sunseeker such well known sporting event in and around the Poole area of Dorset, it is an essential part of our ethos to not only support, but involve as many local industries and businesses as possible within the rally family.

This year Rallye Sunseeker are delighted to announce that  Poole Pottery will design and make unique handmade awards that will be given out at the grand prize-giving on  Saturday evening at the Bournemouth Highcliff Marriott Hotel
With an incredible heritage in design dating back to 1873 Poole Pottery launched the Poole Pottery Studio range in 2009.

This new exciting development brought together the unique craftsmanship and experience of the 4 main artists working and designing within the Poole Pottery shop on Poole Quay, this design team all have many years experience designing and painting Poole Pottery.

Alan White is perhaps the best known, having been associated with Poole Pottery for more than 40years. Collectors worldwide seek his designs and shapes, particularly his hand carved pottery and the incredible Storm range and African themed triple wall plaques. For Rallye Sunseeker he has hand thrown individual 40cm plates, for the prime trophies, making them truly unique.

Nicola Massarella has been allied with Poole Pottery for 27years. She is an expert at recreating and updating Poole Pottery’s traditional styles using the Delph technique and she also designs many of their client’s commissions. For the Rallye Sunseeker trophies she was responsible for designing and hand painting all the lettering.

Lorna Whitmarsh has worked at Poole Pottery since 1995. She uses the Living Glaze which allied to strong Poole colors creates bold, bright abstract styles with a contemporary twist. She was responsible for preparing all the Rallye Sunseeker trophies for the kiln and applying the design to the individual class trophies.

Jane Brewer is another who has been with Poole Pottery for over 15 years, specializing in using on glaze colors which are painted directly onto the unfired clay then finished with a semi-matt glaze to create a unique “fine art” look. She has designed and hand drawn all the Rallye Sunseeker top prize trophies, creating beautiful “works of art” to treasure.

We are told that none of this could have been achieved without the support of Esther the Poole Pottery dog, who as usual slept through the whole design and production process!!

Together this unique team have designed and produced our trophies for Rallye Sunseeker 2010.

Each trophy will be 1 of an exclusive limited edition of Poole Pottery, signed and certificated by the team. Visitors can watch them being made at the Studio pottery within Poole

Pottery on Poole Quay, which is open to the general, public 7 days a week.
